What can a horse teach you about yourself?
Horses have been part of my life for over 50 years. Living, working, riding, driving, breeding, raising and learning with horses, I’ve come to believe some of the most important lessons horses offer aren’t about getting a horse to do something; it's about paying attention.

Why Imagine You With Horses?
Imagine You With Horses grew from that lifetime of learning. It is a place to explore the many ways horses can become part of our learning, creativity and personal growth. Sometimes that happens through practical horsemanship. Sometimes it happens through a story. It can happen by watching a horse closely and realizing that you need to pay attention to something in yourself. It's about being curious enough to ask: What can I learn from this experience? This is the idea behind the Horse Stories, the Horse & Heart Journal, Horses 101 and the other resources you'll find here. Explore how horses give us opportunities to notice, learn and grow.
Learning With Horses
A good relationship with a horse is built over time through observation, communication, understanding, trust and experience.
I’ve learned from veterinarians, coaches, mentors and fellow horse people. I’ve taken horsemanship courses, clinics and coach education. I’ve learned through breeding and raising Trakehner horses, assisting with the birth and development of nine foals, and training horses for riding, driving and practical partnership.
I’m a Manitoba Horse Council Certified Provincial Coach and a past Director of the Canadian Trakehner Horse Society. My coach education includes St. John Ambulance First Aid and Respect in Sport.
But some of my most important teachers have been the horses themselves. They show us what is really happening, often before we are ready to see it.
More Than Horsemanship
Develop your observation and awareness of your body and your surroundings. Communicate intentionally and recognize when something isn't working, then try another way. Become more confident in your ability show your horse you are listenting.
The Learning Continues
I’m still learning. Every horse, every training challenge, every unexpected moment and every new experience gives me something else to consider. That’s one of the things I love about horses: there is always more to notice.
