Horses 101

THE FOUNDATION BETWEEN

Horse + Human

Horses 101

Understanding horses starts with understanding how they see the world.

Whether you are new to horses or have years of experience, there is always more to learn about how horses think, behave and communicate.

Horses 101 explores the fundamentals of horse behaviour, care, handling and horsemanship. It offers practical information to help you recognize what a horse is communicating, understand their needs, and make informed decisions when working with them.

The more we understand the horse in front of us, the better equipped we are to respond to their needs, build trust and develop a relationship based on understanding and respect.

Learn to understand horses, care for them and be safe around them

For ages 8 to 15 (with parent/guardian)

Love horses? Horses 101 gives you the chance to learn what it really takes to care for and work with a horse, without riding.

Through hands-on activities with horses, you’ll learn how to:

  • Safely approach, catch and lead a horse
  • Groom and care for a horse
  • Identify basic horse body parts and equipment
  • Understand what a horse is saying through its ears, eyes, body and movement
  • Learn about feeding, water, hoof care and everyday horse needs
  • Build confidence while learning to work with a horse calmly and respectfully

This is about more than learning horse skills. It’s about learning to observe, communicate and make good decisions around horses.

No previous horse experience is required.

Parent Participation Required

A parent or guardian must accompany children throughout the program. Parents are welcome to learn alongside their child and participate in the hands-on activities.
