Ways to creatively squeeze in horse-time despite Mother Nature’s mood swings.

Write it in a Letter

Love Letters

Ice sheets cover every path and field, with grey skies and hurricane winds assaulting from every direction. My horses don’t like it, and neither do I. Weather can be like that, and while we wait for it to change, hopefully for the better, there are still ways to get in quality horse time.

Horses enjoy sharing time with us, simply hanging out and not doing anything helps us bond. Grab a seat out of the elements and simply be there for a while. Make it a habit and see how your relationship begins to change.

Take it a step further and harness your heartfelt connection with letter writing.

Here’s why letter writing deepens the relationship between you and your horse:

Expressing your thoughts, feelings, dreams, and desires on paper to your horse can help you uncover things you haven’t thought of before. It can also set new intentions into action.

Reflecting on your experiences, memorable moments, challenges, and progress can help you better understand your horse and uncover things about yourself you want to work on.

The act of handwriting on paper helps to clarify and articulate your thoughts and feelings and can lead to new insights into your relationship with your horse, developing a stronger connection.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  1. Write a letter to your future selves (you and your horse):

Reflect on where you hope to be at the end of the season. Detail the aspirations you wish to achieve and offer advice and encouragement to your future self on how to navigate the journey ahead.

  1. Craft a letter from the perspective of your horse:

Let your horse narrate their story, recounting memories, witnessing significant events, and reflecting on their purpose and place in your life.

  1. Compose a letter that shares how your horse has inspired or impacted you:

Delve into what you imagine their response might be if they could receive your letter. Let your imagination run wild as you explore the possibilities of what they may say to you.

May the magic of writing bring you closer to your horse!
